Studio KE Architects combines scales and proportions to perfectly unite at this home in Navi Mumbai
Christened befittingly as Pot Pourri, this home is everything eclectic, monotonous, simple and animated. Yes — all the juxtaposed attributes that interestingly make this home complete. Christened befittingly as Pot Pourri, this home is everything eclectic, monotonous, simple and animated. Yes — all the juxtaposed attributes that interestingly make this home complete. Tucked on the 22nd floor, with a view of lush greenery, a golf course and the Pandavkada waterfall, Studio KE Architects’ Esha Tipnis and Karan Danda have created a home that refuses to fit in.
Blending inclusions of smart interiors with modern design sentiments, the home designed for a young couple and their new born spans a 700 sq ft area in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, and stands as a witty play on space and style.
“We believe that every home must reflect the story of the user. A place that resonates with the likes, requirements and dreams of the homeowners. We as designers get to build on these three aspects,” says Esha Tipnis, Co-founder and Principal Architect, Studio KE Architects.
Effortless coordination
Creating a glitzy yet welcoming oasis, the homeowners wanted a luxurious mix of Hollywood-glam and a modern home theme that would reflect in the dramatic and contemporary interiors.
“While furniture that starts at one point and ends at the width of a wall starts defining the length of the room, we decided on an alternate approach of allowing the fixed carpentry pieces to start in one room, bend and curve, and softly merge into another space altogether”
A theatrical flair
From the entry foyer, wood panelling in rhythmic and solid metal intricately merges into a ledge, carving a path to the dining area. ‘The Art House’ by Myntra is an abstract piece which syncs into a reflection on how the various rooms in the house come together.
On reaching the living room, the painting by Rudranee Chinman shapes into the backdrop in pink, peach, grey and green. Adding a touch to the palette is a coffee table that stands on the heart of ‘Genesis’ by Jaipur Rugs, using a treasure chest of wood given by the owner. The TV unit, paired with white oak veneer panels, flows into the mandir for a puncture effect.
With its petite dimensions in mind, the kitchen dared to defy convention, tearing down walls and embracing a whimsical concept. The kitchen platform and dado proudly showcase the allure of Kalinga Stone’s white quartz, while the peach-hued shutters draw inspiration from the captivating masterpiece adorning the living room.
Wandering into the primary bedroom, a palette of earthy green sublimes into the bathroom door. The headboard upholstery from Sabyasachi, adds timeless warmth and verticality to the room because of its untamed beauty. The terrazzo cladding was coupled with wood panelling on either side to create a raw, natural look. The dresser nook with a vanity mirror and light unites the round and bottom storage flow while the sliding shutter wardrobes have been designed from floor to ceiling, to bring out the height of the room.
The guest bedroom, soon to be a kid’s room, portrays a play of blue and yellow on an SPC floor layout bySquare Foot India Flooring. Persuading spaces to create a sanctuary of dreams, an etagere by the window stores books and trinkets. The headboard displays a ‘pseudo three-pointed arch’ design leading to a monolithic look. The intermingling of the two primary colours comes together as one design element in the room.
It’s in the details and ideas!
“They wanted understated elegance, a touch of grandeur, plenty of storage, playfulness and a vibrant yet minimal house. This mixed bag of requirements was as challenging as it was refreshing” says Esha.
Baby-proofing all edges and arches, filled with things that make them joyful rather than trying to fit in with home trends that don’t truly reflect the family, the space blends seamlessly with purity and innocence. Origami pieces from Decoratus Apparatus and other decor pieces in the form of insects and animals accentuate the overall design of the house which eulogises the connection with the outdoors.
