Imagine lounging in a beach house perched at the edge of the world where the sea is its living companion. Designed by Principal Architects Kunal Barve and Mihir Barve of Interface Architects, along with their team, including Tanmayi Dhir, this aesthetically modern abode on the coastline of Kashid, Maharashtra borrows inspiration from its surroundings.

Living in this sprawling 12,000 sq ft home dubbed ‘The Wave Whisperer’ isn’t just about the view—it’s about the feeling. Cloaked in dense green landscape a salty breeze meanders through the sunlit spaces of this luxurious haven conveying a sense of connection with nature and its elements.

The architecture invites the outdoors in, with wide-open spaces dissolving the line between the house and its surroundings. The interiors weave an evocative narrative of contrasts, in the calming presence of a pristine white exterior. “The owners envisioned being engulfed in nature’s bounties at their soon-to-be-holiday-home and that’s exactly what we gave. We prioritised comfort and ensured that every moment they spend here should be an indulgent experience altogether” Kunal shares.

Melding with nature

The gate opens to a verdant lawn and a glistening pool, guiding the way to the central living room. Inside, two expansive windows frame the spectacular view of the courtyard on the opposite side. “The double-height living room, the heart of the home, is my favourite space” Kunal exclaims. “It is both physically and visually accessible from the lawn, swimming pool, and courtyard and we infused it with thoughtfully curated seating combinations, with warm speckles of hues scattered across”.

The affable space effortlessly includes a dining area defined by modern minimalism. A cluster of metallic pendant lights levitate linearly above an angular dark wooden dining table. The kitchen and utility areas are strategically positioned adjacent to the entrance. Subtle bursts of colour and playful patterns emerge through soft furnishings and curated art pieces. The light-toned walls and water-grey limestone flooring that echo textures of the shore, reflects how nature plays the role of the ultimate muse.

Fabulous furniture

On reaching the first floor, a clutter-free design unfolds again, starting with the family room that overlooks the living area below. Outfitted with larger-than-life upholstered furniture, rugs, art and fixtures, the space cradles in the lap of nature through the large fenestrations. A spacious balcony invites the residents to bask in sweeping views of the ocean that change with every sunset. Unique colour palettes of warm brown, striking white and soft beige amalgamated with natural wooden flooring, take over the four bedrooms of this home. These private spaces perfectly articulate Interface Architects signature symmetry and strong use of lines.

Quintessential design concept

Mindful zoning separates the home into distinct areas and one can enjoy the sea view from all parts of the house. “All major room positions and decks were oriented towards the sea-facing direction creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The home plays with multiple scales and challenges such as levelling uneven contours and navigating the surrounding structures were met with innovative design solutions” Kunal explains. Designed for panoramic views and easy maintenance with smart storage solutions, the holiday home lent itself well to Kashid’s irresistible tropical charm.
